  • It is always preferable that you submit your manuscript using your @utoronto / @mail.utoronto email address or by selecting the University of Toronto as your primary affiliation. Not doing so may preclude you from the deal or delay the publication process.
  • Once an invoice is paid, most publishers are unable to offer refunds. Please ensure applicable discounts have been applied before paying.
  • A corresponding author is generally understood to be the individual who takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during the submission, peer review and publication process.

The University of Toronto has entered into an open access agreement with Karger Publishers that covers 100% of the cost of article processing charges.

How do I apply this deal

Corresponding authors must indicate that they are affiliated with the University of Toronto during submission process. APC discount will be automatically applied upon acceptance of manuscript. Authors who do not wish to publish open access should select the “opt-out despite being eligible option.” As of January 1, 2027, Karger journals will move to the Oxford Academic platform. However, as of July 2026, Karger has moved the administration of its OA publishing agreements to the SciPris portal (Oxford' tool). Please contact the SCCO if you encounter any issues in applying this deal.

What journals are eligible

This discount applies to all Karger journals, including Karger's Open Access and hybrid journals (subscription journals with an Open Access option). Search for eligible journal titles: https://search.scifree.se/utoronto    

Who is covered

Corresponding authors affiliated with U of T, including students, and teaching/research staff employed by the University.
